World Heritage Site

Hahoe and Yangdong, two traditional Korean villages dating back to the 14th century, are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Working with Ahn Sang-Soo, one of Korea's most distinguished graphic designers, unit-design has created a tourist information system. What is special about the system is that the design of the information elements evokes traditional shapes and materials such as bronze and stone and combines them with contemporary design elements. The results are being introduced at cultural heritage sites nationwide.

The shapes, materials and typography employed for the information signs establish a link between Korea's historic past and today’s international visitors.

The bronze casting enables the text and maps to be presented in three dimensions.

Full-scale versions of the various potential designs were installed in the village and their effect was assessed.
